Validate before you write: five signals your book idea has readers
The Top Author team · 28 October 2026 · 7 min read
Most authors find out whether a book has an audience after they have written it. Book Intelligence moves that moment to before you start, when changing course is cheap.
Start with search demand. Are readers already searching for the problem your book solves, or the experience your novel delivers? Rising search interest in a niche is the strongest early signal you can get.
Next, look at competition. A crowded catalog category shows existing supply; it does not prove demand. What matters is whether the top titles are old, poorly reviewed or missing an angle you can own.
Then check book volume and price range. How many titles are released in the niche each year, and where do the prices cluster? Pricing far outside that band needs a strong reason.
Finally, write the concept down: a one-line hook, three comparable titles and a reader promise. If you cannot write those, the idea needs more time.
